A BROOKLYN SUMMER

The Brooklyn Bridge in all it's glory on the 4th of July.
My family and I and some friends got to see the fireworks from a rooftop in Greenpoint Brooklyn. It's was a beautiful Fireworks Show and we saw it clearly on a wonderful clear evening; oh it did start to drizzle, but we were not daunted. One of our very smart friends brought over his large white tent and we were well covered and having a ball. I started to look across all the other rooftops and they also were filled with people enjoying the Fireworks and enjoying each other's company and all of us enjoying the uniqueness that is BROOKLYN.

GRAHAM AVE. STREET FAIR

The Graham Ave. Street Fair was a great success as usual. Always jammed packed with wonderful vendors, and great displays and merchandise. Delectable foods and exciting entertainment. There was one missing ingredient, our very own Ambassador to Williamsburg Betty, who had emergency surgery but still ran a tight ship even from her bed rest. The highlight for me was Mr. Boro President himself........Mr. Brooklyn...Marty Markowitz. He shared a few encouraging words with the merchants and residents of Williamsburg/Woodhull,Graham Ave. BID and then was off to the Coney Island Area. Before leaving he spoke to as many people as possible and even stopped for a few photos. I was extremely excited to meet and greet Mr. Markowitz and blessed that he took the time to take a photo with my Church one of the organizations represented in the FAIR. Our tent was pitched early, My husband and myself arrived by 8:00am to secure a great spot. The weather was great to us, it was a wonderful fair the beginning of many exciting events that will be held in the Williamsburg area.
Be Back soon with more event reports, pics and news.

My Brooklyn

As of today, I am dedicating this site to BROOKLYN, my town. My other site will still have the updates on my book Teapot Blessings by Cooky Morales available at Lulu.com.
But back to Brooklyn. I know that there are many others that do Brooklyn Blogging; I'm
bringing it the perspective and eyes of a Latina Baby Boomer.
That's me CookyLaBabyBoomer. The first thing I want to share with you is the great pic with me and Mr. Brooklyn himself, Marty Markowitz. We were at the Graham Ave. Street Fair. Brooklyn is all about their street fairs in the good old Summer Time.
I'll try to catch as many street fairs as possible throughout the summer and post them, Oh what a sacrifice, what hard hard work...sign ;-).

It's my Birthday

so here is an excerpt from my book

Teapot Blessings

Born on Feb. 8, 1954

Yeah, I'm Cooky La Baby Boomer

MY NAME IS SOCORRO

I was not a welcomed expectation but Jesus had predestined a plan for my life. My Mom who herself was a mere child when she became pregnant, was beaten, punished, shunned and given potions to drink to try to induce a miscarriage. God had different plans and He held me. My Mom went into labor too early and I was born premature. Now this was over 50 years ago so chances of surviving were extremely slim. My Mom was told, "Take her home and enjoy her short time of life". So she did take me home and she did all she could do to help me survive. She sends up a prayer to heaven and asked for my life and vowed to name me after the Patron Saint of Children, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, so my actual name is Socorro. That is the Spanish translation for heavenly help. That is what God has given me my entire life (Lord I praise you) when all seemed hopeless at different times of my life, God was ever present. Always being my perpetual help with His never ending love. Even when I did not deserve it, He still loved me and preserved me. From my mother's womb unwelcome, to this present day redeemed, how could I not meditate on His Goodness and say Thank You Lord. Tu eres mi Socorro.

You are my heavenly help.

I try to walk like my heavenly Father and always give a helping hand to others; I've been told that I live up to my name. Our names are written in the book of life, I pray you are living up to yours.

Let us all Glorify His Name, the name above all names

Jesus

My Waltz with Abba

How sweet is the waltz, the dance with you when I find myself in tune with your heavenly melody. Your foot prints are clear and easy to follow. As a partner you never let go and leaving me to wander. If I slip you catch me and wait for me. Like a little girl standing on her Daddy's feet, we waltz to the tune of Mercy and Grace. As a proud Father admires his daughter on prom day, you dressed me in a robe of righteousness and pinned me with the Lily of the Valley. You bless my feet with the sandals of peace, I must share the good news. I sing my song, Lord be Glorified.
I dance my dance like David danced, my waltz with My Father. my Abba.
